Raymond Andrew Murray

R. Andrew Murray was appointed as the District Attorney for Prosecutorial District 42 in May 2021. Previously, he served as the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina from 2017 to 2021. He was also the elected District Attorney for Mecklenburg County from 2011 to 2017. His legal career began in 1992 as an Assistant District Attorney in Mecklenburg County, and he later worked in private practice as a managing partner with a focus on criminal law. Murray enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1980 and retired as a Captain in 2016 after 35 years of combined active and reserve service. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina School of Law.
