Timothy Wright is a native of Polk County, having grown up in Lynn and graduated from Tryon High School in 1989. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served during Desert Shield and Desert Storm. His law enforcement career began in October 1994 with the Tryon Police Department, where he rose through the ranks to Captain. He was first elected Sheriff of Polk County in 2018 and was sworn into his second term on December 5, 2022. Wright holds an Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice Technology from Isothermal Community College, a Bachelor of Science in Human Services from Gardner Webb University, and a Master's Degree in Justice Administration from Methodist University.
