Bill Wilke is the incumbent Sheriff of Haywood County, having been elected in November 2022. He is a retired Army colonel and a former Asheville Police Department officer, where he rose to the rank of lieutenant. Before becoming sheriff, he also worked as a private investigator. Wilke previously ran for sheriff in 2010. His law enforcement career outside of Haywood County has been a point of discussion in past elections.
