Willie Burnley Jr. is a community organizer, renter, and a former union steward with Teamsters 122. He graduated from Emerson College and later moved to Somerville. After experiencing displacement due to a significant rent increase, he became a strong advocate for tenants' rights. He has served on the Somerville City Council since being elected in 2021, where he has been a prolific legislator, passing laws related to tenant rights, safe streets, and police accountability. He previously worked on the re-election campaigns for U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey.
