Dr. Antionette V. Irving is the incumbent Sheriff of the City of Richmond, a position she has held since January 1, 2018. A native of Richmond, she grew up in the Creighton Court public housing complex and graduated from Armstrong-Kennedy High School. Irving had a more than 26-year career at the Henrico County Sheriff's Office, where she became the first woman to be promoted to the rank of Major. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Shaw University, a Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University, and a PhD in Business Administration with a concentration in Criminal Justice from Northcentral University. She is also the founder of the AVI Foundation, which aims to encourage and develop youth.
