D. Michael Barber is a lifelong resident of Christiansburg and the current mayor, first elected in 2014. Prior to becoming mayor, he served on the Christiansburg Town Council from 2000 to 2013, including two terms as vice mayor. He is a graduate of Christiansburg High School, National Business College, the VA-MD School of Bank Management at The University of Virginia, and The School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University. Barber is retired from a 43-year career in the banking industry. He is married with two daughters and five grandchildren.
