Dan Helmer is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and a Rhodes Scholar, holding a Master's in International Relations from the University of Oxford. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and is currently a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. Before his political career, he worked as a business strategist. Helmer was first elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2019, initially representing the 40th district before redistricting placed him in the 10th district. He resides in Fairfax County with his wife, a public school educator, and their two sons.
