Donald T. Sloan is a candidate for Sheriff in Lynchburg, Virginia — 2025 General Election. Running as Republican.

Donald T. Sloan is a graduate of Central Linn High School in Halsey, Oregon. In 1978, he moved to Lynchburg to attend Liberty Baptist College (now Liberty University), where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree and two Master's degrees. His career in law enforcement began in 1979 with the campus safety department at Liberty, where he ascended through the ranks to become the Chief of Police, a position he held from 1997 to 2001. In January 2002, Sloan accepted the role of Chief Deputy Sheriff for the City of Lynchburg. He served in that capacity for over 15 years before being appointed Sheriff on March 31, 2017, following the early retirement of the previous sheriff. He was elected to his first full term in November 2017 and was re-elected in November 2021. He and his family are long-time members of Thomas Road Baptist Church.
