Ghazala Firdous Hashmi is a candidate for Virginia Lieutenant Governor Election in North Chesterfield, Virginia — 2025 General Election. Running as Democratic Party.

Ghazala Hashmi was born in Hyderabad, India, and emigrated to the United States at age four. She earned a bachelor's degree from Georgia Southern University and a Ph.D. in English from Emory University. Before entering politics, Hashmi worked as an educator for nearly 30 years, serving as a professor at the University of Richmond and Reynolds Community College, where she was the founding director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. In 2019, she was elected to the Virginia State Senate, becoming the first Muslim American to serve in that body. She was re-elected in 2023 and currently serves as the Chair of the Senate Education and Health Committee.
