Jason Miyares is the 48th Attorney General of Virginia, assuming office on January 15, 2022. He is the first Hispanic American to be elected to a statewide office in Virginia. His mother fled Cuba in 1965. Miyares attended public schools in Virginia Beach and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from James Madison University and a Juris Doctor from the College of William & Mary Law School. Before becoming Attorney General, he was a prosecutor in the Virginia Beach Commonwealth's Attorney's Office and served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2016 to 2022, representing the 82nd district.
