Jerry R. Townsend is a native of Prince Edward County. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Administration of Justice from Southside Community College. His career in corrections spans over four decades, during which he has worked at numerous prisons in Virginia, rising through the ranks from Correctional Officer to Assistant Warden and Superintendent. He is currently the Superintendent of the Piedmont Regional Jail. Mr. Townsend was elected to the Prince Edward County Board of Supervisors, representing the Leigh District, and is a Certified County Supervisor by the Virginia Association of Counties. He was named "Superintendent of the Year" for 2024 by the Virginia Association of Regional Jails.
