Jessica Anderson was elected Mayor of Chapel Hill in November 2023 after serving two terms on the Town Council, from 2015 to 2023. She also served as Mayor Pro Tempore from 2017 to 2019. Anderson is a Professor of the Practice in the Public Policy Department at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She holds a Master's degree in Public Policy from Duke University's Sanford School of Public Policy and a bachelor's degree in journalism from Northeastern University. Her professional background is in education policy, including work as a Senior Policy Analyst at the SERVE Center at UNC Greensboro, where she focused on issues like youth homelessness.
