Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, John Powell Jr. graduated from Myers Park High School in 1977 and earned a B.S.B.A. in marketing from Appalachian State University in 1982. His professional experience includes managing NBP&F, LLC since 2007, and working as an appraiser, consultant, and photographer for his own businesses, Powell Real Estate Services, LLC, and PREServing Memories. He previously ran for an at-large seat on the Charlotte City Council in 2015 and 2017. His father is former UNC Chapel Hill All-American football player, John Kenneth Powell Sr.
