Jon Dempster is a co-owner of The Shanty restaurant in Cape Charles, which he opened with a friend in 2012. Originally from Rockport, MA, he established the restaurant after his boat coincidentally brought him to Cape Charles. The Shanty focuses on serving local seafood and giving back to the community. In 2019, Dempster sought to expand the popular restaurant by offering to purchase the town-owned harborfront property on which it is located, though the town council ultimately did not approve the sale.
