Joseph P. "Joe" Baron

Joseph "Joe" P. Baron is a native of Norfolk, Virginia, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy and Navy Reserves. He has over 40 years of experience in law enforcement, including 26 years with the Norfolk Police Department where he served as a homicide detective and retired as the Violent Crimes Commander. He has been with the Norfolk Sheriff's Office for over 14 years and was first elected Sheriff in 2017, and re-elected in 2021. Baron holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from St. Leo University and a Master of Public Administration from Troy University. He is also a graduate of the Professional Executive Leadership School.
