Joseph McNamara was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from the University of Virginia with degrees in Accounting and Finance and is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive). He owns Katie's Ice Cream and Chocolates and the Salem Ice Cream Parlor. McNamara was elected to the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors in 1996 and was first elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in a 2018 special election. He currently represents the 40th district and is running for re-election.
