Laura Downs was elected to the Falls Church City Council in a special election in November 2024. Prior to her council position, she served on the Falls Church City School Board, where she was elected in 2019 and served as Chair for two years. Her professional background is in Higher Education Administration, having worked at George Washington University as Executive Director of Student Life. She holds both a bachelor's and a master's degree from GW. Downs moved to Falls Church in 2009 with her husband and four sons. She has held several volunteer leadership roles, including PTA President at both the elementary and middle school levels.
