Lily Franklin is a native of Southwest Virginia, having graduated from Northside High School and earning a degree in Political Science from Longwood University. She began her career as a high school math teacher in Appalachia. Franklin later worked in the legislative office of Delegate Sam Rasoul, eventually being promoted to his Chief of Staff. In this role, she assisted in writing legislation related to grants for local food infrastructure and establishing limits on PFAS chemicals in drinking water. She and her dog, Poppy, live in Blacksburg.
