A resident of Charlottesville since 1999, she works as a home-care physical therapist. Larson-Torres earned her bachelor's degree in physical therapy from California State University, Long Beach. Her advocacy in education began when advocating for her own child's needs, which led her to join the Special Education Advisory Committee before running for the school board.
