Luis A. Quintana has served on the Municipal Council of Newark since 1994. Born in Añasco, Puerto Rico, he moved to Newark at age seven. He is a graduate of Barringer High School and holds a B.A. in Criminal Justice from Seton Hall University. Quintana became the first Hispanic elected Council Member-At-Large in Newark's history. He also served as Council President and became the city's first Hispanic Mayor, serving in an interim capacity from November 2013 to July 2014 after Cory Booker's departure. He is a former Deputy Mayor and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission.
