Matthew McLaughlin is a candidate for Somerville City Council Ward One in Somerville, Massachusetts — 2025 General Election. Running as Non-Partisan.

Matthew McLaughlin is a Somerville native, Iraq War veteran, and community organizer. He enlisted in the Army in 2003 and served two tours in Iraq as a public affairs specialist. Upon returning to Somerville, he co-founded Save Our Somerville (SOS), an advocacy group focused on youth services, affordable housing, and drug treatment reform. He attended Tufts University, majoring in political science, and was first elected as Ward 1 Alderman in 2013. He has also worked for the Department of Labor in a program assisting homeless veterans with unemployment. He is a fourth-generation Somerville resident.
