Matthew St. Hilaire is a Beverly native and an alumnus of Beverly High School, class of 1995. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Villanova University in 1999. His career has largely been in and around government and politics. He has served as a Beverly City Councilor At-Large for two terms from 2013 to 2017 and currently holds the position of Ward 6 City Councilor. His experience in state government includes working as an aide to Governors Paul Cellucci, Jane Swift, and Charlie Baker. He also served as the Chief Human Resources Officer at the MBTA and as the Executive Director of the Massachusetts Republican Party. In the private sector, he is the Chief HR Officer for The Middlesex Corporation. He is married with three children.
