Melanie Shekita is a career prosecutor with 27 years of experience in the Wake County District Attorney's Office. A Raleigh native, she graduated from Broughton High School, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Campbell University's Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law. She joined the DA's office in 1998 and has spent her entire legal career there. Shekita leads the Special Victims Unit, where she prosecutes serious and sensitive cases, including crimes against children, sexual abuse, and homicides.
