Is this you? Claim this profileMichael A. Moore is a native of Portsmouth, Virginia, where he grew up in the Cavalier Manor neighborhood and graduated from Manor High School in 1974. His career in law enforcement began as a Trooper with the Virginia State Police. He later served as a Special Agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), where he rose to the position of Supervisory Special Agent. He also served as a regional supervisor for the DOJ/ATF Hostage/Crisis Negotiation Team and was assigned to the Office of Professional Responsibility and Security Operations/Internal Affairs. Moore retired from the Department of Justice in 2012. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Norfolk State University and an Associate of Applied Science in Mortuary Science from John Tyler Community College. Prior to his law enforcement career, he worked as a licensed mortician. He has been the Sheriff of Portsmouth since January 1, 2018.
