Michael S. "Mike" Mondul was raised in a military family and has been in the criminal justice field since 1992. He began his career in juvenile corrections before becoming a Danville Police Officer in 1993. He rose through the ranks, becoming an Investigator in 1998 and later a Lieutenant and spokesperson for the department. He was first elected Sheriff of Danville on November 3, 2009. Mondul holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Old Dominion University and a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice from Boston University. He is also a certified Sheriff through Virginia Commonwealth University's L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs.
