Mike Cherry is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he served from 1990 to 2010. He was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. After his military service, he pursued higher education, earning a bachelor's degree from Liberty University in 2010 and a master's degree in education from Regent University in 2015. His professional experience includes working as a staff pastor at Life Church and as the Head of School at Life Christian Academy. He also served on the Colonial Heights City Council from 2017 to 2021 and has been a volunteer chaplain for the Colonial Heights Police Department. He was first elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2021.
