Mildred Council

Mildred Atkinson Council is a native of Pitt County and a graduate of Shaw University with a bachelor's in sociology and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a master's in social work. She is retired from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services after 32 years. Her extensive public service includes 22 years on the Greenville City Council (1987-2009), during which she served three terms as Mayor Pro Tem. She also served on the Pitt County Board of Education from 2012 to 2018, ending her tenure as Chair. In 2018, she was a candidate for the North Carolina House of Representatives, District 8.
