Prior to becoming mayor, he was elected to the Town Council in 2004 and served on the Planning Commission. Dickerson is a lifelong resident of Pearisburg, a graduate of Giles High School and James Madison University, and is retired from Volvo Trucking. He also works as a substitute teacher at Giles County High Schools and Giles County Vocational School. He is married with two daughters and seven grandchildren.
