Samuel J. "Joey" Dickson has a history of public service, having been elected to the Carroll County Board of Supervisors in 1999, where he served from 2000 to 2003. He is a graduate of Fries High School and attended Danville Technical Institute. For his career, he co-owns a home construction business, The Homeplace of Va. Inc., with his son. He is also a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent at the First Assembly of God in Galax. In 2023, he ran for the position of Carroll County Treasurer in the Republican primary.
