Shelly Simonds has represented a portion of Newport News in the Virginia House of Delegates since 2020. She is a former teacher and was elected to the Newport News School Board in 2012. Simonds is also a longtime environmental activist, having volunteered for the League of Conservation Voters. She serves as the Chair of the Aerospace Advisory Council and is a member of several other commissions and boards related to education and the environment.
