Susan G. Anderson was first elected to the Blacksburg Town Council in 2006 and is running for her sixth term. She has served four terms as Vice Mayor. Anderson holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics and classical civilization from Mary Washington College and a master's degree in mathematics from Virginia Tech. She taught mathematics at Virginia Tech for 40 years, retiring in June 2023 as a Senior Instructor Emerita. She is the president of the board of directors of the Women's Resource Center of the New River Valley and the coordinator of Montgomery County NOW (National Organization for Women).
