Takis P. Karantonis

Takis Karantonis is an economist and urban planner with over 25 years of experience. He was first elected to the Arlington County Board in a 2020 special election and was re-elected in 2021. He currently serves as the Chair of the County Board. Born in Athens, Greece, he graduated from Berlin's Freie Universität with a master's degree in urban and regional economics. Before his election, he served as the Executive Director of the Columbia Pike Revitalization Organization. An Arlington resident for over two decades, he has been active in numerous civic organizations, including serving as president of the Columbia Heights Civic Association and chair of Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment.
