Buckner earned her bachelor's degree from Virginia State University and her law degree from North Carolina Central University School of Law. Her previous roles include serving as an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney for the city of Danville in 2010, and later as both Senior Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney and Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney for Petersburg.
