Tyson Cooper is the incumbent mayor of Buena Vista, having been elected in 2023, and has served on the City Council since 2017. He previously served as vice mayor and was a member of the city's Planning Commission and Economic Development Authority. Cooper is the vice president of finance and operations at Southern Virginia University, where he also earned his bachelor's degree. He holds a master's degree from Liberty University. He and his wife, Cami, have six children and chose to remain in Buena Vista after graduating from college.
