V. Leigh Henderson

V. Leigh Henderson was born and raised in Virginia Beach, graduating from Kellam High School. She earned two bachelor's degrees, one in Accounting and one in Finance, from Old Dominion University in 2000. Henderson began her career in the Virginia Beach Treasurer's Office in 2000 as a lower-level accountant and worked her way up to Accounting and Investment Administrator, a role she held for eight years. In 2017, she was appointed Chief Deputy Treasurer. She became the acting Treasurer on December 28, 2018, following the retirement of her predecessor and subsequently won a special election in 2019 to become the first woman elected to the office. She also holds certifications as a Certified Treasury Professional (CTP), a Certified Master Governmental Deputy Treasurer, and a Master Governmental Treasurer.
