Valencia "Val" Applewhite is a retired United States Air Force veteran who served for 20 years. After her military service, she worked as a DoD Civilian at the Air Force Pentagon Communications Agency and currently works as a real estate broker and owner of her own firm. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a Master of Science in Political Science. Applewhite previously served three terms on the Fayetteville City Council from 2007 to 2013. She was elected to the North Carolina State Senate in 2022, becoming the first African American woman to represent Cumberland County in the Senate.
