He is a lifelong resident of the City of Fairfax and a graduate of George Mason University with a B.S. in Finance. Johnson is a fifth-generation native of Fairfax and an eleventh-generation Virginian. He has held several leadership positions, including Chairman of the Northern Virginia Cigarette Tax Board, past-president of the Commissioner of Revenue Association of Virginia, and past-president of the Historical Society of Fairfax County. He is also the author of two local history books. He and his wife, Susan, reside in the Orchard Knolls neighborhood and have two adult sons.
