Joi Mayo is the Community Engagement Manager for a Charlotte-based environmental nonprofit. She moved to Charlotte in 2012 to work as a middle school math teacher in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Mayo holds a Bachelor of Arts from Elon University and a Master of Arts in History from the College of Charleston. Her civic involvement includes serving as the former President of the Kings Creek HOA and the Southwest Area Neighborhood Coalition. In 2024, she founded Transforming Nations Ford, a resident-led community development nonprofit. She won the Democratic primary for the District 3 seat.
