Abdul El-Sayed

Abdul El-Sayed is a physician, epidemiologist, and public health leader, and the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate in Michigan in 2026. Born and raised in Southeast Michigan, he earned a B.S. in biology and political science from the University of Michigan (2007), a D.Phil. in public health from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar (2011), and an M.D. from Columbia University (2014). He served as Executive Director and Health Officer of the Detroit Health Department (2015–2017) and as Director and Health Officer of Wayne County's Department of Health, Human and Veterans Services (2023–2025). He ran for Michigan governor in 2018 and has hosted the America Dissected podcast since 2019. He lives in Ann Arbor with his wife, Sarah, and their two daughters.
