Dr. Abdul El-Sayed is a physician, epidemiologist, and public health official running for the U.S. Senate in Michigan. He previously served as the executive director of the Detroit Health Department from 2015 to 2017 and as the director of the Wayne County Department of Health, Human, and Veterans Services from 2023 to 2025. A progressive Democrat, El-Sayed ran for governor of Michigan in 2018 and has focused his 2026 Senate campaign on advocating for Medicare for All.
